From Rabaçal to Estrada do Rochão
Start beside the loading chamber of Rabaçal on the ER105. The route board gives 1.2 km to Estrada do Rochão, and the same distance back. Allow 30 minutes one way according to the board.
Um Caminho para todos means ‘A path for all’. The route was prepared for accessibility, including for people with physical disabilities.

Water and views towards Calheta
Look south for views across Calheta's ridges. The water beside the path comes from the Juncal stream in the Ponta do Sol stream basin.
Levada do Paul II supplies the loading chamber of Rabaçal alongside Levada do Paul I. You may know the latter as Levada do Alecrim. Water then travels through a conduit to Calheta's hydroelectric power station to generate electricity.

Bring warm clothing for the frequent weather changes noted on the board. The weather panel uses the Porto Moniz station at 6 m above sea level and Pico do Areeiro at 1,818 m. PR 6.8 runs between 1,279 m and 1,280 m.
Booking your entry slot
Register on SIMplifica and choose an entry slot. Bookings and payments are online only. Same-day and next-day bookings are possible while places remain. Allow for about 15 minutes of tolerance before or after your slot.
Children aged 12 or under go free. Madeira residents need their resident card and citizen card for free entry. People with a disability of 60% or more also enter free with one companion. Everyone still needs a booking.
Planning another route from Rabaçal
PR 6.1 Levada do Risco runs from Rabaçal to Risco for 3 km each way. I'd check its live status before adding it to your day. Each route needs its own booking.
Most classified routes cost €4.50 per person. PR 1 costs €10.50. The day fee is €9 for two or more routes. Three days cost €22.50. Seven days cost €52.50. These passes exclude PR 1. SIMplifica applies the cheapest option automatically.
