From Fajã da Ama to Ribeira do Inferno
The table's route runs from Fajã da Ama to Ribeira do Inferno. Allow for the return when planning your day: 3.9 km out and another 3.9 km back.
The route board names Ginjas in São Vicente as the start. It gives 3.9 km from Ginjas to Ribeira do Inferno and 3 h 30 one way. An information board is marked at Ginjas.
The forest beside the levada
Maritime pines and eucalyptus grow at the beginning of the trail. Further along you reach the native Laurisilva forest. Waterfalls and views across São Vicente feature along the walk.
The levada is also known as Fajã da Ama. Its source lies in the Ribeira do Inferno stream bed. The stream separates Seixal from São Vicente. The channel carries water towards Rosário to irrigate São Vicente's farm fields.
Tunnels and vertigo
Carry a torch for the tunnels along the path. The board also warns of vertigo. I'd choose another walk if you get vertigo.
The board gives a highest point of 630 m and a lowest point of 600 m. Keep its tunnel and vertigo warnings in mind when deciding whether this route suits you.
Booking PR 16
Register on SIMplifica and book your entry slot online. You can't book or pay at IFCN offices. Same-day and next-day bookings are possible while places remain. Allow about 15 minutes either side of your slot.
Most classified routes cost €4.50 per person. PR 1 costs €10.50. For two or more routes the day fee is €9. The three-day fee is €22.50. Seven days cost €52.50.
Those day and multi-day fees never include PR 1. Each route still needs its own booking. SIMplifica applies the cheapest option automatically.

No. A guide is optional on classified routes including PR 16. You still need an entry booking through SIMplifica. If you plan to walk independently, take a torch for the tunnels and heed the board's vertigo warning.
Can I get a refund if it rains?
Rain alone does not qualify. Refunds or rescheduling apply only when IFCN closes or restricts the route. Email IFCN within 10 working days. A change of mind or illness means losing the fee. A missed flight does too.
