Seventy-five of the tours we've already chosen for this site list a child age band. That isn't the same as a bookable place, so we went back through them for the age the operator really sells, how long you're out, and the seats. Nine made this list, and two tuk-tuks came out because their child places are zero. The other formats are below.

Rating and the number of reviews count as one of the criteria: every trip here had 4.5 stars or more from at least 30 reviews, Viator and Tripadvisor together, when we last went through the list.

Madeira tours with kids: which one to choose

With a pushchair, I'd start with Fajã dos Padres if your family wants a cable car ride. Children's fares cover ages 0 to 11. Prams are allowed. The visit includes a guided walk through the orchards.

For whale watching, the Calheta yacht takes infants aged 0 to 2 with an adult. Choose a daytime departure. Evening trips exclude whale watching. The cruise with lunch leaves from Funchal and allows pushchairs.

Levada da Referta has infant places. Allow time for the drive as well as the walk. Level 1 canyoning starts at age 7 and a height of 1.20 metres.

For a day by road, the Nuns' Valley tour has infant seats and morning or afternoon departures. The private half day has infant seats too. Pick the group option that fits your family. Ask about child places before booking a tuk-tuk.

I'd start with Fajã dos Padres for a cable car ride and a guided farm visit. It takes children aged 0 to 11 and allows pushchairs. For an outing by road, the Nuns' Valley tour has infant seats. Choose its morning or afternoon departure around your plans.

Which Madeira boat trips take toddlers?

The Calheta yacht takes infants aged 0 to 2 with an adult. It has a toilet and cabin. The Funchal cruise with lunch takes infants aged 0 to 4 and allows pushchairs. It has a toilet too. For whale watching from Funchal, the ecological catamaran also has infant places from 0 to 4 and allows pushchairs.

Is whale watching suitable for a two-year-old?

A two-year-old can join the Calheta yacht with an adult. I'd choose a daytime departure if whale watching is your reason for going. The 19:30 trip is a sunset cruise without whale watching. Sightings aren't guaranteed. You need to make your own way to Calheta marina.

Can children do canyoning in Madeira?

This level 1 trip takes children from age 7 who are at least 1.20 metres tall. Each booking needs at least one adult aged 18 to 60. Ask the guide to agree the canyon and highest abseil before paying. Be prepared for up to 15 metres. Canyoning boots and the rest of the kit are included.

Can children join a guided levada walk?

Levada da Referta accepts infants aged 0 to 4 and children aged 5 to 12. A guide leads the walk beside farm terraces above Porto da Cruz. Allow extra time for pickup and the drive. Agree your child's transport seat and walking arrangements with the guide before paying.

Are there family tours with child seats?

Infant seats are available on the Nuns' Valley tour and the private half day. The west coast jeep has them too. Its children's tickets start at age 3. Infant seats are also available for the Referta and canyoning transfers. The private weekday tour offers them. Agree the seat for your child before paying.

Can we take a tuk-tuk to the Monte toboggans with children?

Ask about a bookable child place before choosing a tuk-tuk. The Monte trip's adult bookings cover ages 18 to 65. The city trip needs two adults in that age range. The private half day also stops at Monte and has infant seats. The optional toboggan ride costs extra and is closed on Sundays. Check who can ride before buying toboggan tickets.

How much will our family pay?

Prices marked per adult are starting fares. Enter your children's ages when booking to see the family total. The private tours charge per group option. The half day has options for up to four or seven people. The weekday tour has options for up to three, five or nine. Children aged 12 and under join that weekday trip free. What happens if we cancel or the weather stops the trip?

Cancel at least 24 hours before departure for a full refund on these trips. If bad weather cancels the Calheta yacht, you can choose another date or a full refund. Wildlife sightings aren't guaranteed. Check the cancellation conditions on the page for your chosen trip.

Which trips include lunch and a toilet?

The Funchal cruise with lunch includes both. It serves a buffet with unlimited drinks. Prams and pushchairs are allowed. The Calheta yacht also has a toilet. Water and other drinks are included there. Food isn't included.
