I'd look at Referta for a first levada walk with a guide. It suits all fitness levels. The route runs above Porto da Cruz beside terraces used for growing crops. Prices start at €35 per adult.
You walk along the levada for about two hours with views of the north-east coast. Pickup in an air-conditioned vehicle is included. The price also covers the forest fee and all other fees and taxes.
The walk runs on Thursdays and Sundays. Allow time for the drive on top of the walking. Ask for your return time before making plans for later that day.
