Funchal city tours: which one to choose
For a short visit from a cruise ship, I'd choose Funchal City Tour + Old Town. It includes port pickup. At least two adults need to book. MadTuk makes more photo stops. Its port pickup costs extra and needs 24 hours' notice. Both trips are private and priced per adult.
For Monte, I'd take the tuk-tuk with Funchal hotel pickup. You visit the church and stop at the toboggans. Buy the toboggan tickets separately. The express Monte tour has options for larger parties across several tuk-tuks. Those prices are per booking.
On foot, choose the Old Funchal Walking Tour for a shared guided walk through the city. Meet at the University Rectory on Rua dos Ferreiras. The Mysteries of Funchal offers a private weekday walk in English. Both walks charge per person.

Yes. Old Funchal Walking Tour is a shared guided walk from Mondays to Saturdays. A former university student or European volunteer leads it. The Mysteries of Funchal walk is private and runs in English on weekdays. Both start inside the University Rectory on Rua dos Ferreiras. Arrange your own transport there.
Which tour takes me to the Monte toboggans?
The Monte tuk-tuk takes you from your Funchal hotel and allows 15 minutes at the toboggans. The express Monte tour includes port pickup and a 20-minute toboggan stop. Both run from Mondays to Saturdays. You pay separately for the ride. Check the toboggan opening times and queues before choosing your departure.
I have three hours in Funchal from a cruise ship. What fits?
I'd start with Funchal City Tour + Old Town. Port pickup is included. Book at least 2 hours ahead. It needs two adults aged 18 to 65. Agree the pickup and return times around your ship's all-aboard time. Allow time to leave the ship and get back through the port.
Can I take children?
Old Funchal Walking Tour accepts ages 3 to 85. Tukxi takes children from age 3 with an adult. MadTuk has child places for ages 4 to 17 and requires two adults. Do the tours pick me up at my hotel?

What if it rains?
Tukxi runs in all weather, so dress for it. Bad weather can cancel the ranked tuk-tuks and the shared Old Funchal walk. The express Monte tour and sidecar also allow weather cancellations. So does the Christmas lights tour. For your own cancellation, give at least 24 hours' notice for a full refund.
Can I choose an English-speaking guide?

First the bar: 4.5 stars or more from at least 30 reviews, Viator and Tripadvisor counted together. 43 of the 55 fell short of that and stayed out. We also look at the Viator reviews on their own. A trip rated below 4.5 by five or more Viator travellers stays out, whatever the combined score says.
Then the fit. Does the trip do what this page promises? Do its details agree with each other? When the same trip is sold under two names, we show it once. One more trip passed the review bar but stayed out for those reasons.
The order comes from this score. It uses the exact rating. Ties go to the trip with more reviews.
