Yes. The Mystery Tour and Full Day of Wonders include free pickup in Câmara de Lobos and the Caniço Bay area. Let Me Surprise You includes Santa Cruz and Câmara de Lobos. Other areas cost extra. The West Side tour and Private Half Day can arrange paid pickup outside Funchal. The Private Full Day 4x4 offers free island pickup subject to logistics. Agree your address before booking.

Can I choose the route?

Yes on several trips. The Mystery Tour and Full Day of Wonders build the day around your interests. Let Me Surprise You does too. The open-top UMM has a choice of places to visit. The Private Full Day Off-Road tour also offers custom routes, including its smaller-group options. Agree the stops with your guide. A list of possible visits does not mean they all fit into one day.

What should I budget for besides the tour?

Lunch is extra on the six 4x4 trips. The Mystery Tour and Full Day of Wonders also charge for port pickup. Entrance fees are extra on both minivan tours and the Private Full Day 4x4. The Private Full Day Off-Road tour excludes Porto Moniz pool admission. The half-day minivan's optional toboggan ride is paid separately. Check the current fare with the guide before booking it.

I'm on a cruise ship. Which trip could fit?

I'd start with the Private Half Day. It includes cruise-terminal pickup, and you can agree the start time around your ship's arrival. The UMM jeep includes port pickup too. Give the ship's name and docking time when booking. Include your disembarkation and reboarding times. Agree a return time before choosing a tour.

Will I get instant confirmation?

Five of the eight car tours offer instant confirmation. The two minivan tours and the UMM jeep need approval after booking. The buggy does too. The sidecar has a further approval step after the initial booking response. Check that step before relying on a departure.

What happens in bad weather, and can I cancel?

You can cancel every tour here for a full refund at least 24 hours before departure. The UMM jeep and Private Full Day 4x4 operate in all weather. On the latter, poor weather can mean an alternative route. Email any weather cancellation at least 24 hours ahead. Check the weather refund terms before booking that trip.

We started from the 144 private tours in Madeira that guides and other providers sell on Viator. We read every one of them.

First the bar: 4.5 stars or more from at least 30 reviews, Viator and Tripadvisor counted together. 110 of the 144 fell short of that and stayed out. We also look at the Viator reviews on their own. A trip rated below 4.5 by five or more Viator travellers stays out, whatever the combined score says.

Then the fit. Does the trip do what this page promises? Do its details agree with each other? When the same trip is sold under two names, we show it once. 23 more trips passed the review bar but stayed out for those reasons.

The order comes from this score. It uses the exact rating. Ties go to the trip with more reviews.
