Funchal cruise port tours: which one to choose

For a brief look around Funchal from your ship, I'd choose Funchal City Tour + Old Town. Port pickup is included. Bookings take two or three adults aged 18 to 65.

For Monte, the private express tuk-tuk includes port pickup. Pay separately for the toboggan ride. The private half day also collects at the terminal. You can agree its start time around the ship's arrival.

For whale watching, the catamaran leaves from Funchal marina. Check in 30 minutes before sailing. Add time to reach the marina and get back to your ship.

Match the departure and duration in the table to your all-aboard time. For the walks and canyoning, agree a return time that includes transport. Some private tuk-tuks charge per adult. The private trips below the main list charge per vehicle or group.

Funchal City Tour + Old Town includes port pickup. So do the express Monte tuk-tuk and the private half day. The historical city tuk-tuk charges €3 per person for port pickup with 24 hours' notice. Choose a harbour option for the private city tuk-tuk. That option includes its port fee. Canyoning offers port pickup on request.

Is there time for whale watching during a port call?

Compare the whale catamaran's departure and duration with your ship's schedule. Add 30 minutes for check-in at the Funchal marina kiosk. You'll also need time to reach the marina and return to the ship. Pickup is excluded. Late arrivals lose their booking without a refund or free rescheduling. Book at least 6 hours ahead.

How can I visit Monte and the toboggans from the port?

The private express tuk-tuk includes pickup and drop-off at the port. It stops at Monte church and gives you 20 minutes at the toboggans. Ride tickets cost extra. Departures run Mondays to Saturdays. Check the ride's opening times before choosing a departure. Book the tour at least 10 hours ahead.

Where can I join a tour in central Funchal?

The whale trip starts at its kiosk in Funchal marina. Meet the lunch cruise beside the Lobo Marinho ferry at the port entrance. The Nuns' Valley tour has a meeting point at the bus stop near the old-town cable car station. The historical city tuk-tuk also has meeting points near Cais 8 and the CR7 Museum.

Which active trips could work for a port day?

Choose an active trip after agreeing the full pickup and return times. Beginner canyoning includes equipment and offers port pickup on request. Referta is a guided walk through farm terraces. Its duration in the table covers the walking. Larano needs moderate fitness. Give that walk a miss if you get vertigo. Both walks need booking at least a day ahead.

Are the prices per person or for the whole party?

The main comparison table shows starting prices per adult. That includes the private tuk-tuks in the main list. The aside shows prices per vehicle or group. Check the option capacity for your party. For the city tuk-tuk with harbour pickup, choose a harbour option in the tour's price table. Its price includes the port fee.

Which trips take children?

The Nuns' Valley tour has infant places for ages 0 to 4 and child places for ages 5 to 10. The lunch cruise also takes infants. Whale watching starts at age 3. Canyoning starts at age 10 with height and weight limits. The Old Town and Monte tuk-tuks take adult bookings for ages 18 to 65. Ask about children before paying.

What happens if the weather changes?

Bad weather can cancel the boat trips and the guided walks. It can also cancel canyoning and several road tours. The city tuk-tuk with harbour options runs in all weather. Some trips can be cancelled if too few people book. Each tour page has its own terms. All these trips allow a full refund if you cancel at least 24 hours before departure.

What should I agree before booking around my ship?

Give the guide your all-aboard time. Agree the pickup point and planned return before paying. Allow for travel between the ship and any meeting point. For canyoning, send the ship's name and docking time when you book. Include your disembarkation and re-boarding times.
