Madeira 4x4 Jeep Safari : Porto Moniz, Lava Pools & Fanal Forest

By Warriors Adventure · listed in 4x4 jeep tours of west Madeira

Our take

I'd pick this for a west coast day with wine at the end. It has the lowest starting price among our shared trips. The route includes off-road driving with a driver-guide.

You stop at Cabo Girão before crossing Paul da Serra to Fanal. Porto Moniz gets about 90 minutes for lunch or a walk. That stop can vary in length. Seixal is a brief visit of about 10 minutes.

The Madeira wine tasting is included from Monday to Friday. Pickup covers Funchal and Caniço as well as Câmara de Lobos. Cabo Girão entry costs extra.

What the operator writes about each stop
  1. Camara De Lobos

After Pick up we will have the first stop at Miradouro do Pico da Torre where you can enjoy the wonderful bay of Câmara de lobos, followed by an off road.

  2. Cabo Girao

At 580 meters high, Cabo Girão is the highest promontory in Europe, but that's not the only reason it has become increasingly famous all over the world. Its viewpoint, with the famous suspended glass platform — called skywalk — is currently one of the most visited (and certainly most photographed) tourist attractions in the municipality of Câmara de Lobos and the Madeira archipelago.

  3. Ribeira Brava

Ribeira Brava is known for its extensive valley, discovered in the 15th century, with excellent weather for bananas and sugar cane.

  4. At sea

After leaving Ribeira Brava, we will pass through Ponta de Sol to admire the village that was an important landmark for exports at the end of the 19th century. After that, we will stop for coffee, toilet and anything else that customers may need.

  5. On the way

With a unique natural landscape, the Paul da Serra is a point of interest for unique contours on the island of Madeira. It is the largest mountainous plateau of the entire archipelago. It is therefore one of the most relevant (and indispensable) points of interest in the municipality of Ponta do Sol. With an average elevation of 1500 meters, the Paul da Serra allows access to stunning views over the mountainous peaks and deep valleys that mark the surrounding area. On days of good visibility, it is possible to see the coastline of the south coast and the north coast. The landscape is, however, dominated by the green tones of Nature.

  6. Posto Florestal Fanal

Situated between the Seixal and Ribeira da Janela mountains, the Fanal is a vast forest area that invites you to enjoy what nature has to offer. This idyllic space is one of the most iconic places in the municipality of Porto Moniz, hosting a landscape heritage of great beauty.

  7. Praia Da Ribeira Da Janela

We will have a wonderful stop in Ribeira da Janela with a path towards a small cave where you will have a splendid panoramic view of the blue Atlantic.

  8. Porto Moniz

We have a stop at Porto Moniz for lunch, where you can walk and enjoy one of the most beautiful places on our island. (HORAS IN THIS LOCAL CAN VARIATE)

  9. At sea

Stop to admire the wonderful natural black sand beach.

  10. Henriques & Henriques

At the end of the day, we return to the Chamber of Lobos to the Madeira wine factory, where we will have a taste of the delicious Madeira wines. (ONLY MONDAY TO FRIDAY)

From the operator

In Warriors Adventure's own words, from the Viator listing.

Our 4x4 adventure begins at Cabo Girão, the famous "SKYWALK" the second highest cliff in Europe with ums incredible height of 580 meters. We follow winding roads to the Ribeira Brava, where the 16th-century Church of St. Benedict stands out, offering stunning views over the ocean. Then we reach Ponta do Sol, the most sunny spot on the island, surrounded by dramatic cliffs. We ascend to Paul da Serra, the only plateau of Madeira, often wrapped in fog, which contrasts with the lush coastal areas. Descending, we arrive at Porto Moniz, famous for its natural lava pools. Along the coast, Ribeira da Janela delights with its basalt columns. In Seixal, we admire the black sand beach and the natural swimming pools of crystal clear waters. We end in Câmarade Lobos, the fishing village visited by churchill, before toasting to the rich wine tradition of Madeira in the winery Henriques & Henriques, ending an unforgettable day.
